UME Diagnostics offers a range of neonatal screens including an ultimate baby package for expectant parents.

Our state of the art 4D equipment provides critical structural and functional analysis of the foetal heart, identifies genetic and infertility abnormalities, and evaluates foetal growth, movement and development as well as establishing due dates.

Our ultrasounds are performed in private, relaxed and comfortable surroundings and our centres are staffed by an experienced team of sonographers. We provide you with the latest and most innovative procedures to give you peace of mind and the opportunity to capture real-time moving images of your unborn baby, clearer than ever before.

How is Ultrasound used in pregnancy?

In the first trimester, an ultrasound is often performed and is used to verify heart beat, detect multiple pregnancy, and to set due dates. In addition an ultrasound in the first trimester can rule out abnormalities such as ectopic pregnancy or potential for miscarriage.

In the second trimester, abdominal ultrasound is performed. A full anatomical survey is performed and measurements are taken to verify growth and detect foetal development problems.

In the third trimester, ultrasound is used to analyse foetal growth and foetal movement and ensure foetal and maternal well-being. In the late stages of pregnancy it allows assessment of the presentation of the foetus i.e. to determine if the foetus is laying breech. More recently, 4D or dynamic 3D scans have become available to look at the face and movements of your baby before birth. This is thought to have an important catalytic effect for mothers to bond to their babies before birth.
